RECAP: LA State Games [2024]

RECAP | Louisiana State Games (Road to the Cup)
June 11, 2024

Last week we had our inaugural State Games: Road to the Cup Event at University of Lafayette. This invite-only event was the first event of the summer to be recognized as a potential player to represent Team Louisiana at the Southeast Cup in Hattiesburg as defending Champions. With over 40 top players in attendance from around the state, this event sure did not disappoint. We take a look at some of the highlights and top performers.

POSITION PLAYERS

Things got started off to a fast start early with numerous sub 60 yard dash runners. The two fastest times of the day belonged to Davis Emonet (2025 – OF – Catholic BR) and Jackson Beddoe (2025 – IF/RHP – Sulphur HS) turning in a 6.50 60's.

Emonet also had a very good day at the plate. Short to the ball and very quiet hands, Emonet showed the ability to hit the ball the other way for plus pop. Very athletic prospect who had an average Exit Velo of 90mph. Emonet will be a big time uncommitted prospect to follow.

Jackson Waller (2025-IF-Glenbrook) turned out a very good showing. Started off the day running a 6.87. Followed that up by a professional round of BP going gap to gap and showing a short swing with plus pop. In game, seemed as if Waller found a barrel in almost every at bat, hitting the ball hard to all fields. Was also Game 3 MVP.

Northwestern State commit Justin Lartigue (2025-1B-Lake Charles College Prep) put on quite the show during BP. Fast hands, strong, and aggressive bat path through the zone led to multiple 95+mph exit velos and balls flying out of the park. Lartigue showed pull side pop with the ability to go the other way with a backside base hit the other way in the live game.

Brecken Bordelon (2025-IF-St.Louis Catholic) and Brock Laird (2025-IF-Natchitoches Central-Southeastern Commit) had good days. Bordelon was gap to gap in BP and showed the ability to play multiple positions. He had good at bats and found the barrel numerous times. Was game 2 MVP. Laird ran a 6.93 to start the day off and was a plus defender. Soft hands and good actions at shortstop. During BP he posted a 99.2mph Max Exit Velo.

Brock Davis (2025-IF-Live Oak-Southeastern Commit) showed plus strength from the last time we saw him this winter. Max exit velo of 102.5mph and hit a backside triple in game to the left center gap. Ran a 6.94 and on the infield showed improved arm strength (86mph).

Former Southeast Cup Participant Nate Alario (2026 – OF – John Curtis) posted a 6.70 and clocked an arm velo of 90mph. Also an aggressive swing at the plate that create backspin. Alario is a plus defender in the outfield and covers a lot of ground.

2027 grads Clayton Fontenot (2027-OF-Parkview Baptist) and Dekohta Jones (2027-OF-Live Oak) also had great times. Fontenot posted a 6.63 while Jones ran a 6.77. Both also had multiple good at bats and barrels in the live game and Jones was MVP of Game 1 with an RBI triple. Another 2027 grad standout that turned some heads was Landyn Craft (2027-IF-St.Thomas More) The infielder ran a sub 7 and moved well on the infield. Very athletic, strong build. Average Exit Velo of 91.3mph and hit a pull side double off the wall in left during games.

TWO WAY PLAYERS

Jackson Beddoe (2025-IF/RHP-Sulphur) posted a max Exit velo of 97.1mph during BP and had an arm velo of 90mph. This also showed on the mound as his fastball sat 86-89 topping out at 90mph. Also has a very sharp slider with tight spin. Beddoe has the ability to be very good both as a hitter and pitcher, a good looking two way prospect in the 2025 class.

Got a good look at Ashton Bultron (2025-IF/RHP-Sam Houston). Max exit velo of 97mph during BP. Good barrel awareness and easy swing that generated pull side power. Was 83-86mph on the mound and could land 3 pitches for strikes.

PITCHERS

Logan McNamara (2025-RHP-Mandeville) threw very well. The uncommitted RHP was 83-86mph on the fastball and had good movement. Plus changeup with good sink that caused problems for both lefties and righties at the plate. Threw a breaking ball that was thrown in any count.

Dayton Hicks (2025-RHP-Sulphur) Hicks came out and competed and challenged hitters. 2 seam fastball had good run and 4 seam fastball worked up. Threw 3 pitches for strikes all day and breaking ball showed tight break (2,617RPM). Hicks worked fast and threw tons of strikes.

Slade Shove-Knox (2025-RHP-Sulphur) Was 88-90mph on the mound with natural sink and had a very loose arm. Athletic prospect, plus slider (2,776RPM) Confidence in the slider kept hitters off balance, very good out pitch.

Jake Tompkins Jr. (2025-RHP-Catholic BR) continued to be impressive. After 30IP this spring, Tompkins came out throwing 83-85mph on the FB with arm side run. The breaking ball was landed numerous times for strikes and also backed it up with a plus change with good sink. The right handed pitcher has gotten better each time we have laid eyes on him.
